There’s no better excuse to get dressed up than for a Valentine’s Day date – whether it’s with friends or a loved one!

If it’s an evening or day time date, sophisticated and dressy, or casual and fun, we’ve got your hair and beauty needs covered.

The casual day time date

The key for a casual date or a day out with friends is to keep it simple. Those with long hair could go for a relaxed beach wave look, or a ballerina bun to keep hair neat and tidy all day. If you want your hair pulled back, why not try a side fishtail braid or braid the front sections of your hair and pull them to the back of the head, securing with bobby pins. It only takes minutes to do but can finish an outfit!

To make sure the style lasts all day, use a hard hold hairspray. Or if you hair tends to go limp throughout the day and loses volume, try a volumizing powder such as Clynol Powder Punch – add powder to the roots and create as much volume as you like. This is also a good way to add texture to a braid – once the braid is finished, sprinkle the powder on the braid and carefully use your fingers to create texture.

This is the time to go all out. Take inspiration from Blake Lively and opt for Hollywood curls using a large barrelled curling wand. If you wear your hair down most days, change it up slightly by moving your parting. Tumbling curls look great teamed with a deep side parting, sweeping the curls over to the opposite side of the part.

If your hair is on the shorter side then why not try some clip in hair extensions? They’ll add instant volume, length and glamour. Make sure you go for 100% human hair extensions so that you can style them like your own hair.

The best thing about them is that you can move the clips around depending on your style so that no one will ever see the clips. As long as you use a heat protector spray, you can then straighten or curl them just like your own hair.

Up do’s are also good for an evening date. For this look, keep like Lauren Conrad in mind. She often wears her long locks in a ponytail or messy bun. Hair extensions will come in useful for these styles too as often ponytails can look a little thin. This time, instead of clipping them in the usual way, start by creating a small ponytail in the centre of the head, leaving out all of the hair right around it (this is so that your own hair will completely cover this smaller ponytail.)

Next, begin to clip in the pieces of your hair extensions around the base of your mini ponytail. Usually three to four pieces will be sufficient but you can add more if you want a lot of volume. Now take all of your own hair that you left out of the mini ponytail, and cover the clips by combining your hair with the mini ponytail to create one bigger ponytail.

Add a ribbon, or clip to dress it up a little!
